EM-CAL

Station-wide infrastructure as a precision exercise platform.

EM-CAL "Walk-to-Work" Configuration: A schematic showing a crew member using the Hip-Belt and tethered Flux Puckwith the RSL floor.

Summary

at EM-CAL (Environment-Metered Cardio & Axial-Load) proposes using the station’s floor and corridors as an Embedded Gym by integrating resistance metering into the infrastructure. Crew members wear a hip belt and tow a magnetically-dragged puck.

This system replaces dedicated exercise time/space with Habitat Loading- accumulating low-intensity bone-loading (ALM) and metabolic work (MPE) during daily duties like walking or stationary work. By measuring the physics of the load and motion, EM-CAL aims to provide audit-grade data on exercise volume while maintaining crew schedule and avoiding invasive monitoring.
